At the
strike of seven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, November 11, in a nice,
slight breezy, foggy morning when the sun was finding its way to break through
the morning clouds, in a spectacular morning, the captain of Team Orlando, Raza
Dhanji, hit the first tee shot of the inaugural tournament off the first tee at
the beautiful Eagle Creek Golf Club and thus the history commenced as the
first-ever Mehdi Cup got underway between the hosts, Team Orlando, and Team
Toronto.
A total of 28 players (14 from each side) took part in this inaugural
tournament. Total of three rounds in two days were played. The first two rounds
were at Eagle Creek Golf Club where players had delicious, specially served,
lunch and had prayers in between the two rounds. At the end of the day, all
players gathered at one of the popularly known restaurant for dinner. The second
round was played at the picturesque Victoria Hills Golf Club.
Soon after the conclusion of the tournament, the players gathered at the Union
Clubhouse where prayers were held, followed by the presentation of the trophy.
The trophy was presented by Ali Virjee to the captain of the Toronto team
Sibthain Akbar. Soon after the presentation, delicious food was enjoyed by all
the players.
The Mehdi Cup will will be competed by these two cities every November in
Orlando.
